So it's definitely been a while since I last posted (last post was my first and only post). Since then I've left my last job making sandwiches and have been working at Amazon since November. My first night (night shift) was crazy because that whole week I was not only on my final week at Jersey Mike's but also I had jury duty all that week. Kinda coincidental for all of that. Anyways, in terms of design I haven't been super busy. All I've been doing lately is working on my dad's business: I've worked on some business cards (which have been printed and look SWEET!) and some side projects that I still have to run by him. His old business cards were horrendous and needed a new look. Luckily he ran out of the old ones and had me make him new ones (that weren't designed by someone he hired who didn't know design... not even kidding.). He wants me to work on some flyers too but I have yet to talk to him about details.
I've also seen his old invoices and his way of keeping track of contact info at events and have updated those as well. The contact info page was literally my sister drawing columns on printer paper so a digitally produced one was good, especially for straight lines on the page to separate contacts. The invoices were funny because his old ones had his business name in two different fonts with two different weights (all that did not go together at all) and even included a space for fax numbers on the page. I definitely fixed all of those and it looks cleaner. Like I said I still have to run all of this by him when he gets back from a festival he's carving at this weekend. I've also designed a monogram for my upcoming wedding. My fiancée wanted to include the monogram on our invite labels so I had the honor of doing that. It turned out pretty good too.

Alright, well this is the first post I've ever written for this page. This site actually.
I wrote on the side of this page that this blog is a place where I can write or talk about things happening in my life that pertain to art or design, and something came up just under a month ago that I feel fits the criteria for this blog. Last month my manager down at my workplace was transferred to another location and waited until the very last day he was at our location to let us know that he was leaving. A couple days later I decided to do something fun, so I took a marker to our whiteboard on our freezer that is mainly used for writing down notes or updates for staff purposes and I drew out a quick sketch of our manager. My coworkers and I took to his Facebook page and found the most fitting photo of him for me to draw up. The image accompanying this post is the end image. Keep in mind that I work for a sub shop and had only a couple minutes in between serving customers to do this, so it's not perfect, but it's something that has lasted almost a month on the whiteboard. |
